Local coffee story
Specialty coffee in Bogota
Bogotá is both a coffee capital and the centre of a producing country that historically exported much of its best harvest. Its specialty movement has helped Colombians taste regional coffees with the same attention long expected from overseas buyers.
How the scene took shape
Luis Fernando Vélez founded Amor Perfecto in Bogotá in 1997 and began roasting the following year. The company became an early advocate for high-quality Colombian coffee at home, later investing in barista training and producer relationships. Other roasters and growers expanded the movement, so the city's present culture rests on a broad network.
The coffee scene today
Bogotá now offers producer-owned bars, established roasteries and experimental newcomers across Chapinero, Usaquén, the centre and beyond. Menus can explore Colombia by department, variety and processing method. This closeness to farms gives the city exceptional access while encouraging more value and knowledge to remain within the country.
